CONTRIBUTORS

Thinking about jazzing up your regular breakfast routine or adding something novel to your salad? Are you ready for bursting flavors, delicious tastes and a mouth-watering aroma filling your kitchen?

Look no further than this vegan bacon with coconut flakes recipe! It is crisp, smokey and a great way to change up any routine. Life is short, let’s spice it up!

What is vegan bacon?

Vegan bacon is often made from a meat-alternative such as tempeh, or tofu. You can also use coconut meat, like this recipe for a more complex taste and smoother texture. Whatever alternative you choose to use is marinated in various spices.

Liquid smoke is often incorporated for that straight off the barbie smokey flavor we all love! If you prefer not to use liquid smoke, try chipotle powder.

How to make Vegan Bacon with Coconut Flakes:

Making vegan bacon is actually quite simple, it's best to plan a day ahead if possible to get the full flavor, but 30 minutes ahead of time also will work well.

You want to make sure that you spread the coconut flakes in an even layer on the baking sheet and be sure to stir the coconut flakes half way through baking to ensure perfect crispiness and flavor!

Can you buy Vegan Bacon?

Of course! There are several types of vegan bacon available at select grocery stores, but odds are if you are reading this blog you enjoy experimenting in the kitchen and are up for the challenge of making your own!

Plus making it yourself has the additional benefit of being in control of the ingredients and knowing exactly how much is added to your delicious dish! So, let’s get creative and make some homemade bacon!

Hi everyone! My name is Alyssa! I am currently a Masters student at American University studying Nutrition Education! Outside of my studies I spend time working with clients and patients as both a personal trainer, Zumba instructor, and rehab manager at an integrative medical clinic.  My passions include helping others achieve their fitness goals and improve their overall health, spending time on the water, especially sailing and being active outdoors. In the clinic, we work with hundreds of patients finding alternative methods through diet and exercise to prevent potential surgeries. We promote whole body wellness through exercise, chiropractic adjustments, and soft tissue mobilization through Active Release Techniques and Graston among others.   My goal, with my degree in Nutrition Education, is to expand on this knowledge to provide individuals with the information they need to further improve their current health status and reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases in the future.
