How To Make Oat Milk

Looking for a cheap, easy, and delicious alternative to milk? Try this easy and simple vegan oat milk recipe! Not only does oat milk only require a blender and a cheesecloth or a fine-mesh strainer, but it's takes minutes to prepare!

Oats are an amazing superfood and a great source of protein with an average of 5 grams per serving. They also provide minerals like calcium and iron

So, How Healthy is Oat Milk?

Oat milk is such a wonderful alternative to cow’s milk. When you make your own, you know exactly what goes into it; No preservatives, no hormones, no antibiotics. Oats are also a grain which makes it high in fiber and protein.

Studies have also shown that oat milk reduces the risk of heart disease by improving your cholesterol! What an easy and cheap alternative!

Afterwards making a batch of milk, try using the remaining oats in the strainer to make a healthy facial mask! It’s a great way to get the most out of your product!

Is it cheaper to make your own oat milk?

If you buy oat milk from the store, it costs about $4-5 for half a gallon. When you make your own, a 42 oz container of oatmeal will cost about $4 and produces about 15 cups of oat milk!

It’s almost half the price and you get to control what you put in your oat milk! What a deal!

How to make oat milk

This recipe is super simple. All you need is water and rolled oats, and to work with a 4:1 ratio.

If you want to thicken your oat milk, you can play with the recipe and add less water and more oats. Keep adding little by little until you get a consistency that you like!

Oat milk is great by itself, and serves as a great substitute to almost anything that needs regular cow’s milk. Add it to your cereal, coffee, baking, and so much more. The possibilities are endless!

If you are looking for a thicker consistency, more complex flavor, or extra nutrients, try mixing a batch of oat milk with a batch of cashew or almond milk, and get the most bang for you buck as well.

Can I add flavors to my oat milk?

Adding flavor to your oat milk is definitely a good way to make it tastier. You can add almost anything you want!

  • Spices (i.e. cinnamon, nutmeg)
  • Berries
  • Bananas
  • Vanilla
  • Cocoa powder

Adding healthy ingredients offers more nutrition while enhancing the taste at the same time. If you want to add a little sweetness into your day, try a dash of agave or maple syrup!
