Best Gluten-Free Vegan Banana Bread with No Added Sweeteners


This healthy banana bread is gut friendly, using the best ingredients to support your gut while also high in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and is low in sugar. This is the recipe to make if you are still looking for something healthy, but are craving something really sweet.


For that rich and sweet banana-y taste, use brown bananas. The best banana bread bananas are the ones that are so brown they are mushy and fall apart to the touch. This recipe is also a good way to use all those extra bananas you have laying around!


What is monk fruit sweetener? 


Monk Fruit sweetener is derived from the monk fruit. It tastes sweeter than table sugar, has no calories or carbs, and doesn't raise blood glucose levels. This recipe is very low in sugar, because of monk fruit sweetener instead of conventional table sugar.


Monk fruit is one of the only artificial sweeteners that doesn’t cause gastrointestinal stress and is safe for people with diabetes. Monk fruit is also sweeter than regular sugar so you still get the sweetness you are looking for.


You can also substitute monk fruit sweetener with coconut sugar or regular sugar if you are not worried about added sugar. 


What is a Flax Egg?


Flax egg is an easy vegan substitute for eggs that is a 1:1 replacement. Mixing flax seeds in water and letting it sit will make a gel like consistency that is similar to an egg. Flax is high in fiber and omega-3’s which makes flaxseed a nutritional powerhouse. 


This recipe is customizable to your liking. You can substitute walnuts, cranberries, raisins, or seeds instead of chocolate chips. Serve this banana bread on its own or top with powdered sugar, cinnamon, or more bananas! My favorite way to eat it is with a layer of peanut butter on top!

How to cook Gluten-Free Vegan Banana Bread

  1. Mix together ground flaxseed and water together in a small bowl as allow to set for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Mash bananas, vanilla, and flax eggs together in one bowl and set aside.
  3. Mix oat flour, monk fruit, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in separate bowl.
  4. Fold in the dry mix with wet ingredients, then add chocolate chips (can sub for nuts, cranberries, etc.)
  5. Spray avocado oil in the pan, pour the mixture, bake at 350° F for 30 minutes. Add more time if needed, until just golden brown on top.
